Let the width be 'X' inhes

Therefore,

Length = "5X" inches

According to the given condition,

Perimeter = sum of the sides = 2(l+b) = 40 inches,

Equation = 2(5X+X) = 40

2(6X) = 40

12X= 40

X= 3.33

Therefore,

Width = X = 3.33 inches
