When a court makes a decision, it sets precedent. How does this affect future court decisions?

If a court case is monumental, then it may cause a change in the Bill of Rights, or the Constitution. Brown v Board of Education made the "Separate but Equal" law changed / more enforced. This means that something may be illegal now, but wasn't before, like segregated water fountains
