The fear of Communism influenced the US's choice in deploying troops in Vietnam. The Theory of the "Domino Effect" stated that if one country fell to Communism, so would the Neighboring Countries. To prevent the "Domino Effect" from happening, the US decided to deploy troops in Vietnam. Hope this helps you.
