Fraternal means brothers so, why is it called fraternal twins when it can be two girls?

Answer:

Because Fraternal twins are dizygotic. Meaning two separate fertilized eggs.

Step-by-step explanation:

Identical twins are the same fertilized embryo (or egg) that separates into two. Monozygotic.

Fraternal twins are still twins but were made from two fertilized eggs, not a shared one. Dizygotic.
