A specific example would be a tigers stripes. The environmental factor is that they live in tall grass areas, so, the adaptation of having stripes helps the tiger hide in tall grass to hide from its prey and hunt better. The stripes also vary from tiger to tiger, each tiger is different because of its own stripes, just like a zebras stripes.
