In ancient times people experienced religious art differently than we did. What is one of the differences and how does it affect us as modern viewers?

For the other answer givin, I gave up reading at how do you define art lol but as modern viewers we saw art as a way of telling stories. It helped people not only tell their stories but express their feelings about or towards something!
