Explain why most organisms that have lived on Earth do not form fossils

An organism must not decay or be consumed in order to become a fossil. This can happen if the creature is either housed within or relocated to a location where it can be buried and preserved. When an organism is buried rapidly, it decays less and has a better chance of being preserved.
