The squared distance is called the quadrance and it's usually the more important quantity. But not in high school.

d² = (-2 - -8)² + (3 - 0)² = 36 + 9 = 45

d = 3√5

Answer: 3√5

That's a nice exact answer so let's stop. Depending on the question they might want a calculator approximation.
