The males would be at a greater risk because males have an one X sex chromosome but also one Y so even if they have one allele they have it but females have two so it is more likely for females to be carriers but not have the disease itself.
EXAMPLE-
Males X^Y- they have it X Y they don’t
Females X~X^ they carry it but don’t have it
Females X~X~ they have it also just XX^ can be possible or XX but it would be harder to get a completely clean X chromosomes but is possible
