ok, so have 3 quartiles you have q-1 (lower quartile) and q-2 (median of middle number) and q-3. But q-1 is the median of the lower half of the data.

Explanation:

To find the lower quartile you have to first find the the median and to do so you line up all the numbers in order. Then one by one start from the left and go then to the right scratching each number off as you go. Then circle the middle number. Once you've done that and you have your median start from the beginning and repeat by scratching off each number from right to left or left to right then once you get to the medial you have your q-1 or your lower quartile
