Why is election the life blood of democracy?​

Election is the pillar of any Democratic country, since democracy is defined as the government by the people, for the people which denotes that people are the source of democracy and that the absolute sovereignty lies with them. However unlike in ancient Greece , there was a system of direct democracy where people could randomly participate but this is not possible in the contemporary world because of its ever increasing populations. This is why elections are held so that people can chose their representatives who will represent different interest and issues varying from one person to another and on that basis , policies ate formulated for the welfare of the people. To sum it up, the core reason for election is to make sure that people can have a say and participate in political affairs indirectly .
