1 is greater than -3 even though 3 is greater than 1 because -3 is a negative number, and 3 is a higher positive value than 1.

3 and -3 are not the same value as -3 is a negative number, and 3 is a positive number.

1 is greater than -3 because it is a negative number and has less value then 1. 3 is a larger number with more value.
