Answer: They both mean you, but are used in different situations. Tú is used for informal situations, like talking to your friend or family member. Typically it is someone of around the same age or someone you would call by their first name.

Usted is used for formal situations, like talking to a teacher or someone you don’t know well. Also, someone with authority or who is older.
