The evolution of a species is caused by natural selection not genetic variation.

If a brown frog is more camouflaged than a purple frog, the purple frog will be more easily spotted by predators and will die out. Eventually there will be no more purple frogs to reproduce so all frogs will become brown. This is adaptation of a species in order to survive.
