Why do you think the slave codes were so strict?

Answer:

There are more and more African American populating in the America which white people start to fear about the revolt of colored people. They made the slave codes as strict as possible so that the slaves wouldn't have time to think about revolting, and by making the code strict, slave would not be able to resist owner's punishment. The slave codes also make African American unable to run away or they will be punished severly.
