Why did Germany want to isolate France?

Isolating France, they could ensure France did not get additional outside help from other countries, meaning that the invasion would go smoother and quicker. they were all worried that the USSR would attack, so they needed to finish their conflict in France before they were invaded. they would not have been able to invade France and defend themselves from the USSR invasion simultaneously.
