Answer:

(a) the equation that could be used to solve for Leanne's age is 4(7 + x) = 200

(b) Leanne is 43 years old.

(c) Franklin is 50 years old.

Explanation:

(a) Since leanne is x years old

Franklin is 7 years older than leanne. Therefore Franklin is (7 + x) years old

But four times Franklin age is equal to 200.

⇒ 4(7 + x) = 200

(b) To get Leanne age we need to simplify the equation 4(7 + x) = 200.

∴ 4(7 + x) = 200

opening the bracket,

⇒ 28 + 4x = 200

subtracting 28 from both sides

⇒ 4x + 28 - 28 = 200 - 28

⇒ 4x = 172

Dividing through by 4,

(4x)/(4) = (172)/(4)

∴ x = 43

Therefore Leanne is 43 years old

(c) Franklin is (x + 7) years old, but x = 43

x + 7 = 43 + 7 = 50

Therefore Franklin is 50 years old.
