3. What is Lincoln referring to in the first sentence of the Gettysburg address?

The first line of the Gettysburg’s address starts with “four scores and seven years ago” a score equals 20 years so he was referring to 87 years ago which would’ve been 1776 when the declaration of independence was signed. He was referring to the birth of the United States.
