12y = x + 23
Explanation:
y = −12x + 5
Perpendicular slopes are opposite reciprocals.
The original slope is −12
So the new perpendicular slope is 1/12.
We plug the point (1, 2) and the slope m = 1/12 into the slope intercept form of the equation y = mx + b
y = mx + b
2 = 1/12 * 1 + b
2 = 1/12 + b
b = 23/12
When we simplify this, we arrive at
12y = x + 23
