Write a system of equations to describe the situation below. Sparkles the Clown makes balloon animals for children at birthday parties. At Jenny’s party, she made 2 balloon poodles and 2 balloon giraffes, which used a total of 12 balloons. For Roger’s party, she used 27 balloons to make 4 balloon poodles and 5 balloon giraffes. How many balloons does each animal require?

Answer:

3 balloons for each animal

Explanation:

2p + 2g = 12 Jenny's Party

4p + 5g = 27 Roger's Party

use substitution

2g = 12 - 2p

g = 6-p

4p + 5(6-p) = 27

4p +30 - 5p = 27

-p + 30 = 27

- p = -3

p = 3

plug this back into one of the equations.

use Jenny's party

6 + 2g = 12

2g = 6

g = 3

Answer:

3.

Explanation:

Let's break it down.

Sparkles used 12 balloons total to make 4 balloon animals. Divide 12 by 4, and you will get 3.

What I did for part 2 of the equation, is I multiplied 4 and 5 by 3 to ensure the variable matched my calculations. 4x3 is 12, and 5x3 is 15. add 12 and 15, and you will get 27 total balloons.
