Oceans, seas and other types of large rivers and lakes can effect the climate of the near-by proximity areas. The water in the oceans tend to heat and cool more slowly than land masses. As a result, the proximity near the oceans tend to stay cooler during the summers and the water in the oceans is more heated. These areas will stay warmer during the winters while the water in the oceans will remain cooler.
