With our problem, (5x+4)+(-8x-2), we need to get x by itself, and to do that we need to use the order of operations. So (5x+4)+(-8x-2) would actually be -3x-2. To get x by itself, simply divide by -3 on both sides, and you’ll end up with x=2/3
