This means that angle + angle B = 180 degrees. Therefore

8x + 2 + 9x + 8 = 180

17x + 10 = 180

Subtracting 10 from the left hand side and the right hand side of the equation, it becomes

17x + 10 - 10 = 180 - 10 = 170

Dividing the left hand side and the right hand side of the equation by 17, it becomes

17x/17 = 170/17

x = 10
