During an oral presentation, eye contact is a necessary tool which helps us connect with our audience. It shows our genuine interest for our audience, and, in turn, they develop interest for what we have to say.

On the other hand, if we avoid eye contact, we express tension, insecurity and fear. This is a direct sign for our audience that we are stressed-out. Not only will avoiding eye contact prevent a speaker from connecting with the audience, but will also establish an unpleasant atmospher.
