So there is this sentence: ,,Anne had to pay for everything because, as usual, Peter ____ his wallet at home.''

In the key it says that the right answer is - left- , but shouldn't it be - had left-(past perfect), because it happened before she had to pay?

Answer:

had left

Step-by-step explanation:

When talking about Anne it's said "had to pay"

(past simple),so when talking about Peter and something that has happened before Anne had to pay,it should be "had left" (past perfect).
