Cody wanted to give each of his forty-five friends an equal amount of candy. At the store he bought six hundred eighty pieces total to give to them. How many more pieces should he have bought so he didn't have any extra pieces?​

Divide total bought by number of people first:


680 / 45 = 15.111


round up to 16. Multiply 16 by 45:

45 x 16 = 720

He should have bought 720 pieces. Now by Tracy to find how many more pieces:

720 - 680 = 40

He should have bought 40 more pieces.
