Booker T. Washington was a slave, after getting his freedom he dedicated himself to impart vocational teaching to the black Americans, for him industrial jobs were more important for the Black Americans .

While Dubois was different as he never was a slave. He only experienced racism in south. He wanted the African Americans to learn liberal arts and believed that top ten percent of the people had the IQ to make change hence these people should make change. Washington wanted the blacks to accept segregation so that they could gain economic freedom by working in factories, he was more concerned about the economic status of the blacks.

while Dubois wanted not just the economic but also the political freedom for the African Americans. He was more progressive.
