Explanation:

When you round to the nearest ten, you look at the ones place. If it is 5 or more, you would go up 1 in the tens place and the ones place becomes a zero. If it is below 5, then the tens place stays the same and the ones place becomes a zero. All numbers ahead of the tens place stay the same.

Example:

51 Rounded to the nearest ten is 50

78 rounded to the nearest ten is 80

983 Rounded to the nearest ten is 980

789 Rounded to the nearest ten is 790

Keep in mind that if the ten rolls over (more than 9) then the hundreds place changes. Example: 798 Rounded to the nearest ten is 800 because going up a ten would add to the hundred place.

This rule can be applied to any rounding.
