What quantity of 75% acid solution must be mixed with 25% solution to produce 720 mL of a 50% solution

Explanation:


(75)/(100) * x + (25)/(100) * y = (50)/(100) * 720


0.75x + 0.25y = 360

and


x + y = 720

both volumes combined makes the last solution...

and


(x + y = 720) / 2


0.5x + 0.5y = 360

now...

0.5x+0.5y=0.75x+0.25y

0.25y=0.25x

x=y

it means both volumes are same

so volume of acid must be 720/2=360mL

plug that number in to x and y
