The following are the four environmental effects of coal-fired power plants:

  • These power plants produce hazardous smoke that contains carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, etc.
  • The particulate matter coming out of the chimneys of these power plants reduces the visibility in the area, contaminates open sources of water, causes various breathing disorders, etc.
  • The average temperature of the nearby area that these power plants function in is usually more than the temperature in the surrounding areas.
  • The coal-waste that is disposed off in the nearby areas pollutes the environment.
