The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 14. When the digits are reversed, the new numbers is 36 more than the original number. What is the original number?

The number is 59

Explanation:

Let the two digit number be qr.

According to question, q + r = 14

The digits that add to 14 are

1) 59

2) 68

3) 77

4) 86

5) 95

Now,

The reverse of qr is rq.

According to question, rq = 36 + qr

The digit qr cannot be 68,77,86 or 95 because adding 36 to it will result to 3 digit number.

So, qr is 59.

rq = 36 + qr

95 = 36 + 59
