Multiply equation (2) by 2

It becomes;

2y = -4x +18 ...(3)

Add equation (3) and (1)

It becomes;

3y = 15

y = 5.

Substitute y = 5 in equation (1)

It becomes;

5 = 4x -3

Collecting like terms:

4x = 5 + 3

4x = 8

x = 8/4

x = 2
