one car went 10 miles farther when traveling at 50 mph than a second car that traveled 2 hours longer at a speed of 40 mph. How long did the first car travel?​

First , we have to calculate the stretch of road of the second car :
2hours x 40 mph = 80 miles
We know that the first car further than the second car 10 miles . Therefore we have to add 80 miles and 10 miles :
80+10= 90 miles
Lastly, find the time that the first car need to have :
90 miles : 50mph = 1,8 hours
( im a Vietnamese . Therefore i’m not acquainted with these figures and i can not make sure that my answer is completely true. In Vietnam we use the unit km instead of miles and km/h instead of mph)

Explanation:

2 hrs = 40 equals a ratio, 1hr/20mph then when thats multiplied by three hours it leaves you with 60 mph
