We can have numerical data obtained from a sample of n =5, where the entire population size is N=20, and the information related to the sample mean given by:


\bar x = (\sum_(i=1)^n X_i)/(n)

Is an unbiased estimator for the population mean but we can have other info from the sample data like deviation, range, median,mode, etc. that not contain all the info from the entire population of interest.

And the same for categorical data we can define some categories but always we obtain samples and the samples are not always the representation of the population info.
