Two provisions of the treaty were British recognition of U.S. independence and the delineation of boundaries that would allow for American western expansion.

The Paris Treaty of 1783 was signed on September 3 of the same year between the United Kingdom, France, Portugal and Spain ending the Seven Year War. That is, official recognition of United States Independence.
