A doctor needs to do surgery on a patient but the effect of the anesthesia drug runs out right when the doctor is almost done the surgery and the patient is in absolute horrific pain, what does the doctor do?

This is mostly a knowledge/opinion question so no wrong answers :)

The doctor should realize the anesthetic is wearing off before the patient has a chance to wake up but in the event of a wake up they may use a fast acting anesthetic to put the patient back under

I don’t know anything about medicine, but I’d say that the doctor should give the patient pain killers, but I honestly don’t know
