Why was there a lot of tension in the annex between the jews in hiding

The annex where Anne Frank, her family, and many other Jews hiding with them often had tension because everyone had different ideas on what they should all do, as the Germans were already in Holland, so some in the annex had opted for contingency plans. However, the people in the annex all had very different ideas.
