What does martin luther king mean by “I want to be the white mans brother not his brother in law.” ?

I think that means that he wants to be created equal as a white man not because of the law

I think he meant that they are equal like brothers and not like brothers in law which means that brothers come from the same “bloodline” so they’re equal and brothers in law don’t so in that case they’re not
