dime is on the botton of the tank. When viewed atnormal incidence
the dime appears to be 59 cm below the surface ofthe benzene. What
is the actual depth of the benzene?

Answer:

88.5 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

n = Refractive index = 1.50

d_a = Apparent depth of liquid = 59 cm

d_r = Real depth of liquid

Refractive index is given by

n=(d_r)/(d_a)

\\\Rightarrow 1.5=(d_r)/(59)

\\\Rightarrow d_r=59* 1.5

\\\Rightarrow d_r=88.5\ cm

The actual depth of benzene is 88.5 cm
