A store is having a sale on almonds and jelly beans. For 3 pounds of almonds and 5 pounds of jelly beans, the total cost is $19 . For 9 pounds of almonds and 7 pounds of jelly beans, the total cost is $35 . Find the cost for each pound of almonds and each pound of jelly beans.

Almond: $7/4 per pound

Jelly Bean: $ 11/4 per pound

Explanation:

A: almond

J: jelly bean

3A + 5J = 19 .... multiply 9 each side

27A + 45J = 171 .....(1)

9A + 7J = 35 .....multiply 3 each side

27A + 21J = 105 ....(2)

(1) - (2) 24J = 66

J = 66/24 = 11/4

3A + 5 x 11/4 = 19

3A = 21 / 4

A = 7/4
