Dipole–dipole forces exist between molecules that contain permanent dipoles (i.e., polar molecules). The strength of these forces increases with increasing polarity for molecules of similar size and mass. Dipole–induced dipole forces are created when polar molecules induce dipoles in nonpolar molecules.
