answer choice a is correct. hydrogen can only form 1 bond since it only has 1 electron that can be shared. additionally, each carbon needs to form four bonds in order to reach an octet. by forming 1 bond with hydrogen and a triple bond with the other carbon, carbon reaches its octet.
