Generally speaking, it's much more difficult to understand text-especially if it's a narrative-when the order of events goes all over the place. In other words, carefully ordering events in a personal narrative is important because when it isn't ordered, it's nearly impossible to comprehend what's happening in the story due to the lack of timing and precision being in corresponding and understandable areas.

For example, say you took the phone of a friend, lost your phone, and needed to call someone. That might not sound right unless you carefully reorder it like so:

You needed to call somebody, but you lost your phone, so you took your friend's phone instead.
