Alicia walked east for 30 yards, then walked north for 72 yards, as shown below.



If Alicia were to walk directly back to her starting point, how many yards would she have to walk to get there?

Alicia would have to walk 42 yards, as north and south are opposite ways of eachother, so 30 - 72 = -42, and to get back to her starting point eould mean walking those 42 yards back.
