Is there anything wrong with public (non-secret) voting? Why do we require our Congresspersons to make their votes on bills public?

Something wrong with public voting is the influence other peoples’ decisions will have on your own. However, to answer the second question, this is one of the reasons why we make Congresspersons vote on bills publicly: so that they are held responsible for their actions during the next election.
