Solution:

  • The abscissa or the x- coordinate of a point is the distance from the y-axis.
  • The ordinate or the y- coordinate of a point is the distance from the x-axis.
  • A point on the x-axis is (m, 0).
  • A point on the y-axis is (0, n).
  • 1st Quadrant - (+,+)
  • 2nd Quadrant - (-,+)
  • 3rd Quadrant - (-,-)
  • 4th Quadrant - (+,-)
  • (a) (iv) (5,0)
  • (b) (i) B
  • (c) (ii) -2
  • (d) (iv) 3 units [Distance cannot be negative]
  • (e) (iii) III
