How would i solve this?-example-1

Answer: 3 & 1/3

whole part = 3

fractional part = 1/3

Work Shown:

4/6 = x/5

4*5 = 6*x

20 = 6x

6x = 20

x = 20/6

x = (18+2)/6

x = (18/6) + (2/6)

x = 3 + (1/3)

x = 3 & 1/3

Side note: The first equation mentioned is only valid when we have parallel lines like this. This in turn leads to similar triangles and helps set up the ratio.
