Ms. Frizzle points to the spot where DNA is separated and tells you that this is called the "fork", and that a copy of the DNA is being made here. DNA is a fragile molecule, she explains, that is protected by staying in the nucleus. This copy being made is called mRNA because it acts as a message so that DNA does not have to leave the protection of the nucleus.
