The figure below is a square with an area of 625 square centimeters. The length of a rectangle is 40% more than the length of the square. Find the length of the rectangle.

For a square:

A = s2, where s = side (the length and the width are the same)

625 = s2

±25 = s

length of rectangle = 1.4 · length of square

length of rectangle = 1.4(25)

length of rectangle = 35
