As it's known conduction needs a medium for heat transfer and during the day, sunlight rays pass through the Earth's atmosphere and near the earth's surface is where most heat transfer by conduction occurs since air is a poor conductor. Thus, the sunlight hits the earth's surface(ground) and in turn heats the air above it and transfering the heat.

It must be known that conduction happens mostly near the earth's surface.
